Shabby Blogs Changeover

Well, it's here.  The changeover for Shabby Blogs to their new service provider.  I'm pretty sure I've changed all my codes but you never know.  I'll see you all on the other side of midnight.  If you check me out and the page looks odd, then I haven't changed all the codes correctly and will endeavour to rectify it tomorrow evening.  Wishing me luck folks!

My Funny Valentine

We don't really do slushy, sentimental cards for any occasion and never have, especially for Valentines Day.  One year for our anniversary I bought a with sympathy card and for another anniversary I bought a congratulations card and inside wrote ...for making it this far!  We all tend to think 'outside the box' in this family.

Last year, as I had just started to get into card making I decided to make one Valentine's Day and here is the result.  I used both sides of my favourite Imaginisce papers, Kitsch'n Floral Black Tie Optional. Although it's floral it has a masculine appeal because of the colour.  I kept the die cut font simple and angular so as not to look too feminine.

I continued the theme on the inside as well.

If I make a card this year I'll post a picture after the day.

Christmas Stories

Here is another scrapbook page I've just finished of Louise in front of the fireplace.  She wanted this picture taken because she loves the Christmas stockings hanging round the mantelpiece.

I stamped the flourishes onto the card stock and matted and layered the photo onto red then black before sticking to the red card which is also matted onto black card stock.  The poinsettia flowers were from an old table centre.  I pulled them apart, inked the edges of two in gold StazOn and one in black StazOn and stuck them on adding an inked Prima paper flower in the centre and then the frosted centre from the original flowers on that.

Yum, Yum!

Louise bought me this lovely little gingerbread house at Christmas and it looked so pretty I left it out as an ornament.  I'm really reluctant to eat it but I know it will go off soon but before we crack it open I had to scrap it.

I inked the edges of the doily, scalloped strips and circles with blue ink to complement the colours of the icing.  I used my Cricut to cut two borders of little houses, the gingerbread men (who else would live in a house like this?) and the title letters.  I hand-wrote my journaling and the date on the pink circles.
I really like the way it turned out, all icing sugar pink and girly and not one bit of bling in sight.  The little hearts on the circles are the centres from the punched hearts on the scalloped edges.  Waste not, want not.

If you have a Cricut, the cartridges I used were Cindy Loo for the border houses (they're actually bird houses) and the font and Just Because Cards for the gingerbread men.

My Talented Sister

I haven't done any painting for ages and I know I said before Christmas I would rectify that but I still haven't got around to it.  I will though because I do miss dabbling with brush and wash.  My sister Jackie however has been busy and for Christmas she sent me a beautiful canvas print of one of her paintings.

The photo doesn't really do it justice but we love the colours she used and they complement our colour scheme in the dining room really well. The shape and texture of the flowers is really nice and the whole painting has a depth to it that I find very hard to achieve.  I Hope you like it as much as we do.

What a Milestone

I can't believe that I have notched up 1000 hits on this blog.  When I started last summer I never thought I would enjoy blogging so much nor that I would have people viewing my little contributions to the crafting world.  I really did think it would be just me talking to myself.  I have made friends along the way and joined in with online craft groups and other blogs, all of which has given me enormous pleasure and broadened my knowledge and appreciation of the crafting world.  To anyone who was thinking about starting their own, just go for it.  You'll be amazed.

A great big thank you to everyone and anyone who has looked at this site, however briefly.

Something Old, Something New ....

At last, I've finally managed to enter a card for the monthly challenge over on Crafts on the Net only because it wasn't too demanding.  The challenge: Take some old stash and some new and create a card.  Well, who couldn't do that.  So here it is.

The butterfly stamp is from Crafty Individuals and is stamped onto plain lavender card then stuck to the pre-printed butterfly card stock.  I embossed the right-hand side twice, cutting to the first wavy line to reveal the lavender card underneath.  The sentiment was cut on a Cricut.

Happy Anniversay

For our 21st wedding anniversary Louise, as usual, went hunting for something a little different.  One of the traditional presents is something made from nickel and so, always thinking 'outside the box', she decided to give us two American nickel coins minted in the year we were married.

It was a lovely idea and we were thrilled.  I wanted to display the coins and needed to prop them up to do so but instead of buying coin mounts I made one and here it is.

I cut a small piece of Grungeboard and then drawing round the coins cut out the apertures.  I inked the Grungeboard with StazOn bronze and then using a text stamp, stamped over the top with black StazOn.  I used a corner stamp to finish the look and a small black bow.

I stuck the Gungeboard to a piece of black card stock which I made into an A frame so it would stand up without collapsing.  Then I pushed the two coins into place and voila!

The First Birthday Swap of the Year

Many Happy Returns to Brenda at Crafts on the Net and here is the card I made for her as part of the swap.

Still desperately trying to get away from my usual format.  I haven't quite managed it but I'll keep trying.

Brenda likes elephants but I didn't have any images to die cut so I printed off a picture from the Internet and used this as a template to draw round on some Grungeboard.  I add a coat of Tim Holtz Crackle paint and when dry, covered the surface with StazOn gold ink.  I liked the way he turned out with textured skin but a metallic look.

Hey, I've done it again.  I delete the spaces between the end of my post and the signature and press one too many times, deleting the signature as well.  I've no idea how to restore it but as it is embedded in my formatting, it will automatically reappear next time I post. Oh the wonders (and frustrations) of technology.  Till next time.  Keep Crafting.

All Change

As you can see from the button to the left, there's a bit of a change happening at Shabby Blogs.  It's taken me a while to sort it out but there is help on their site under FAQs.  Just as well because I had completely forgotten how to download the header and dividers.

What it may mean is that after the end of the month, the dividers on older posts may disappear but hopefully by then they will be further down the screen so as not to spoil the look.  Anyway I'm off for a glass of something following that marathon 'click, copy, paste, save and un-zip' session.

Look What I Found

I forgot I had this cross stitch picture.  I started these wild flowers about 7 years ago and it took me over 6 months to complete.  I haven't hung it on the wall yet as I'm not sure where it would look best.  I also completed 6 assorted bonsai tree pictures which I was thrilled with at the time but never got round to framing as we moved house.  We've actually moved again since then and now I can't find them.  I'll have to go hunting at the weekend.

I don't do cross stitch anymore because I find it really difficult to see the holes and the pattern, even with a good daylight lamp but who knows, I might try again with one of these magnifying glasses that hang round the neck.

Catch-up Time

Still trying to ease into the new year, work, routines and life in general.  Here is the last ATC card of 2010 sent as part of the Friendship swap over on the Docrafts site.

I used a cocktail stick with the pointed end cut off and rolled the bottom of the scroll around it. I used Distress Inks on the scroll paper to give it an aged look.  I'm still working on the second ATC for the Crafts on the Net swap, to include December and January.  I foolishly suggested (jokingly really) a theme of hangover cures and the wonderful Brenda who organises the swap used it.  I'll think carefully in future.

What else is happening?  Well, I'm busy right now trying out new techniques and ideas and hopefully will get back to posting more regularly again. I need to reorganise, yet again, my crafting space.  I try desperately not to encroach on Louise's bedroom space too much but inevitably there is the odd spill-over so I must sort that out before she comes home again.  I went back to work last Wednesday and as usual it's manic, so nothing new there.  All in all, nearly back to normal.

Yet Another Award

What a lucky girl I am today.  Having passed the Blog with Attitude award to Lyn at Spyders Corner she emailed to say that she'd passed an award to me in the summer but for some reason I wasn't aware of this.  I soon rectified that and as you can see it's added in my sidebar.   Thank you Lyn.

My First Award - Yeehah!

Thank you to Jacki at cardsbyjacki (see link on sidebar) for passing on the Blog with Attitude Award.  In return I am passing it to 5 other bloggers.  Here they are:

Now I have to add 3 things that make me different.  Hmm! Difficult.  Let's see:

1.  I can always find a silver lining - no matter what.
2.  I like to round numbers up to the nearest even number eg. 6 minutes, 4 bananas, etc.
3.  I have a terrible sense of smell ever since a really bad sinus infection about 17 years ago.

So to the recipients above, nominate 5 blogs of your choice to receive the award.  List them on your blog with 3 things that make you different, add the award button and link back to Digis with Attitude, then email them to receive your $5.00 gift voucher.

The Last Birthday Card of 2010 and The First Post of 2011

I'm afraid my first post of 2011 is not very exciting but hey, you've got to start somewhere and as we're just emerging from the 'last of the mince pies' stage, I'm going to ease myself back in gently and that includes my clothes!!  So here is the last card I made for the birthday swap last year.  It seems odd to say that.

I used my own hand-made leaf stamp for the background, inking with Tim Holtz milled Lavender distress ink and  then layered the die cut elements in the centre. I cut the stamp using the Speedball, Speedy-Carve  Stamp Making Kit and have found the stamp useful for many projects.  The die cut elements were all made  using a Cricut.
