Let's Try Something Different

I bought some packs of Kraft card blanks at a recent craft event.  I thought they would make a change from the usual white and cream, especially for a more mature (very PC), masculine card.  I also purchased a selection of Imagination Craft's Sparkle Medium texture paste so I decided to combine the two: Why not?

I stamped over the card with Crafty Individuals' CI- 017 script stamp and Pumice Stone DI, then over stamped a few random sections with one line of the stamp using Black Soot DI.

The main image is CI-295, stamped onto brown parcel paper with black heat embossing powder.  Once this was stuck onto the card, I used the Sparkle Medium in Gunmetal and Imagination Craft's diamond stencil to create the partial border.  Not too blingy, but enough to lift the card and still maintain an understated effect.

When the Sun Sets, the Fun Starts

Here's a nice change of colour for me.  I always opt for muted greys, browns and lilac with the occasional satanic black thrown in for good measure. However, it's been pouring with rain on and off all day and not a patch of blue sky, so I decided to cheer myself up with some hot summery colours.

I used Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed and Shabby Shutters DI as well as StazOn black and green. Stamps used are Inkylicious twigs, Crafty Individuals' CI-176 and a free stamp from Craft Stamper Magazine.

I started with the twigs in Mustard Seed and Shabby Shutters, then over-stamped with  the CI stamp in green and Spiced Marmalade, masking off the post mark in the corner.  Finally, the playful hares and a final layer of twigs in black to frame the silhouette.  The CI tag was then inked round the edges with Spiced Marmalade.

A New Home - Take Two

Here's another card for a new home, using a tag I made a while ago.

I started with plain white card which I inked with Broken China DI and then spritzed with Cosmic Shimmer Vintage mist in Astral blue.  I used the Cricut Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge to cut a tag from this and another one from blue mirror card.

The bird cage and bird were stamped using Crafty Individuals' CI-364.  The smaller birds are from one of the free stamps they send with orders.  The sentiment was cut from the Cricut Just Because cartridge and the card was finished off with a key charm and a little bit of subtle bling.

All Change

Lots of new jobs and homes at the moment so here's a card for the former.

I inked the edges of the card with Black Soot DI then stamped the Crafty Individuals' script stamp
CI-017 in Dusty Concord DI.  The sentiment was die cut using the Cricut Don Juan cartridge and the two patterned cats were cut from the Gypsy Wanderings cartridge.  The plain black cat and wording at the side were stamped using StazOn black and a free stamp from Craft Stamper Magazine.

My Lady's Desk is Ready

I was looking through the hoard of items I kept from Christmas and found a really nice tin that had my favourite chocolate gingers in.  It's the ideal shape for a pencil pot and I kept it because as you can see from the photo (or maybe not as I look at it here) it has the most sumptuous gold and bronze-coloured pattern on it.  Obviously I needed to cover up the label on the back and the small one on the front so I used a piece of rich coffee-coloured Adorable Scorable card, matting the piece for the back onto gold mirror card.

I used Aged Gold Frantage on a Dovecraft chipboard frame and then placed a piece of the Adorable Scorable card on  the back.  The image is from Crafty Individuals' Miniatures, People and Places 2 matted onto a piece of newspaper and then inked with Vintage Photo DI.

I wrapped a piece of dark brown ribbon round the tin before gluing the frame on with a hot glue gun.  Once secured, I wrapped a piece of white lace which I had sprayed with Cosmic Shimmer Vintage Mist in Antique Rose and Astral Mystery to pick up the colours of the image.  The gold beaded leaf was once an earring.

Now I have a very stylish pencil pot for my desk which hopefully will fill me with inspiration.

A Little Texture Goes a Long Way

I finally bought some texture paste the other day, after admiring the way Lynne at ADORN uses it on her projects.  If you haven't seen Lynne's beautiful work, then pop over and be awe-struck and inspired.

I bought Galleria Acrylic Medium Modelling Paste because it was the only one I could find locally and after playing around with some scraps of card, I decided to use it alter a box lid.

This was a small gift box which unusually was black inside and out.  I didn't want to alter it as a box and when I took the lid off, I realised that the top and bottom separately would make little frames.  So I took the lid and using a free stencil, I added the flower.  When it was dry I added another layer and when that was dry I painted it with artist's acrylic paint, mixing the yellow and red to get a nice graded orange colour.  I let this dry thoroughly then stamped over the top with Crafty Individuals' CI-017 script stamp in Black Soot DI.

Next I stamped all the elements using Black Soot.  The stamps used are: CI-131 collage of little girls; CI-239 tickets and one of the little free sentiment stamps they send with orders.

I really enjoyed using the texture paste and have already used some on a small glass bottle but you'll have to wait a little longer for that one.

I'm entering this into:  FASHIONABLE STAMPING CHALLENGES  and  THAT'S CRAFTY! a new challenge blog with the first fortnightly challenge starting today.  The theme for both of these is Anything goes

Spring is in the Air

I made this card for someone who is moving house soon but I didn't want a traditional 'Welcome to your New Home' kind of card.  I wanted something that conveyed a new beginning, hence the choice of sentiments: Make a Wish and Dreaming.

I used SAA (Society for All Artists) practice paper which is a rough surface watercolour paper, tearing two pieces and inking the edges with Mustard Seed DI.  The larger panel was then inked with a mixture of Shabby Shutters and Mustard Seed to give a background colour while the smaller one was inked very lightly, so as to just catch the rough surface of the paper, with Mustard Seed.

I used Inkylicious Stamps for the panels: Make a Wish dandelions and Twigs, both stamped with Black Soot DI.

The sentiment at the top is from Crafty Individuals.

I'm entering this into the CRAFT ROOM CHALLENGE for this fortnight which is a Colour Challenge.  Pop over and take a look at the wonderful colour chart and picture which is the inspiration for this.

A Pretty Mirror

A new month, a new challenge and a new DT Project for ALTERED ECLECTICS where, as usual, anything goes as long as it is altered art.  No cards, ATCs etc.

This month I've altered a very plain mirror which will hang in my office to bring an eclectic feel to the stark surroundings.  It would also make a nice present for Mother's Day or a special gift for a friend.

Apologies for the picture but it's really difficult photographing a mirror without getting the background reflected.  The best I could do was the arc of a ceiling light fitting.

I started with a really cheap £1.99 mirror from a local store and painted the frame with cream craft acrylic paint so it was a matt finish.

Then I started to make all the embellishments for the frame.

This is what I used:

Cricut Create and Elegant Edges cartridge for the photo frames and Cindy Loo for the flourishes
Crafty Individuals' Miniatures 'People and Places 2'
Elements from Docrafts, Papermania 'Madame Payraud's
Distress Ink Seedless Preserve and Crafty Individuals' CI-017 script stamp for the white frames
Tim Holtz Stuff to Say sentiment stamp at the bottom
'Live Laugh Love' sentiment stamp from Craft Stamper Magazine stamp
Crafty Individuals magnet
